A city located in southwestern South Jeolla Province. Along with Gwangyang and Gunsan, it has developed into one of the three largest ports in Honam since its opening, and it also serves as the starting point for transportation in the Honam region as the last station of the Honam Line railway and the point of the West Coast Expressway. It used to be a huge port city in the old days, but it has not been developed much recently.
The beginning of today's port city was due to the opening of the Korean Empire's Mokpo Port on October 1, 1897. The old town of Mokpo is a planned city reclaimed by foreign capital such as Japan, so roads are well formed like baduk.
The video, made by the Korea Tourism Organization, shows the atmosphere and rhythm of Mokpo.
“Feel the Rhythm of KOREA”, which is a hot topic in the world, has returned with a follow-up series. If you have enjoyed the rhythm of Korea in the first series, you are welcome to feel it again in more attracting regions of South Korea: Gangneung, Andong and Mokpo. The music of an alternative pop band ‘LEENALCHI’ and the breathtaking performance of ‘Ambiguous Dance Company’ will catch your eyes and ears. Then, shall we dive into the different charms of Korea than the previous videos?
We are always looking forward to meeting you in Korea!

Mokpo City was not developed much and was quite a popular port during the Japanese Colonial Period, so there are many buildings built in Japanese colonial era. Under Yudalsan Mountain, which was the cradle of Japanese colonial era's buildings and modern buildings, the buildings that stood out in the vicinity of Mokpo Girls' Middle School and the old city are all semi-cultural and old buildings. But this is not because it was intended to be preserved, but because the area has rarely been developed since then. Mokpo has been slow to develop since its liberation, and these buildings still remain.
What is famous in Mokpo is the very floating music fountain called the art of water, music and light. The ocean fountain has been named "Dancing Sea Fountain," and it performs every day except for rainy or strong winds during the March-November period. They also play stories and song requests during intermission. In fact, it is a must-visit course for those who visit Mokpo.
There is Yudal Mountain as a major tourist destination and Munhwa Street, a densely populated area of museums, which is located near the sea. The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (formerly the National Maritime Relics Exhibition Center), Mokpo Natural History Museum, and Namnong Memorial Hall are nearby. The nearby Gatbawi Rock was designated as Natural Monument No. 500 in 2009.
And although there is nothing special to see, you can travel to famous islands such as Heuksando and Hongdo through the coastal passenger ship terminal near Yudalsan Mountain, and you can enjoy seafood at reasonable prices at nearby sushi restaurants compared to Seoul.
As the size of the city is not big, major tourist attractions are gathered in one place, so it is a big advantage that you can see almost everything easily even with a short distance.
And there are many places where food is very delicious like Jeolla-do.
